Cyclone journal

Since I am from the coastal town, Pondicherry, it may not come as a surprise I have some element of attachment to coastal related nature activity, which is cyclones for now. Cyclone is a fascinating topic for me since my childhood. When the warning are issued for cyclone, my family ladies, on the day of cyclone go to the beach to witness the spectacle. This was especially possible since my father and uncles used to work at the government office which are mostly located on the beach road at Pondicherry.

Hence I thought it would be ideal to come up with a series of posts related to cyclone and interpretation of this majestic nature activity that scheduled to happen every north east monsoon season of the year. I only wish I started this many years ago, it would have been amazing record of posts to go through about each year’s cyclone. Better late than never. Here I am, at 32, wanting to build memories and make life happen step by step through virtual address Outdoor Being.

In my family, every year is recollected or benchmarked with the occurrence of major cyclone of the year. for instances, if some asked me or my family, when did you pass out of college? they would say, well, 2012 and also because Oaki cyclone happened that year. That is the level of attachment and value we gave ourself to this nature’s one of the brilliance – Cyclone.

Remnants of the old Dhanushkodi Church located in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. Dhanushkodi was a thriving town until it was devastated by a cyclone in 1964. The church is one of the few remnants left of this once-bustling town, now a history and landmark

This interest for nature’s furious activity was added even more curiosity when I first visited Rameshwaram. The moment I saw the outcasted / sublimated village, I can only imagine the power of a cyclone that would have caused this devastation. I wish I could hear the real time stories from the people who experienced it themselves.

This is not the story I want to put here at this point, those stories stay for later.
